A fierce blizzard is burying the eastern seaboard, but on the icy Rhode Island shore renowned artist Maddie Morrison finds warm sanctuary from a contentious divorce at the legendary Ocean House. Hours later, her body is found buried under a blanket of snow and her little daughter, CeCe, has disappeared without a trace.
I am so excited to share the cover of LAST NIGHT! It will be out 12/5--perfect timing, because it is a thriller set at the Ocean House during the holidays. The hotel is decorated in classic evergreens and tiny white lights, fires blazing in the fireplaces, making the crime seem all the darker and colder in juxtaposition. I feel as if every great hotel deserves a murder mystery set within its walls, so LAST NIGHT is my offering to the Ocean House.
Dear readers, I am happy to let you know my new book Last Night, will be published for the holidays on December 5th 2023. Stay posted to keep up with news on the book, and more about the novel.

I am thrilled to see that Last Day is a best-seller on Amazon— #9 on the most sold list, #15 on the most read. (I’m humbled and in awe of the company I’m in. ) Thank you to all my wonderful readers for making this happen. This is my first adult novel in a few years, and I am very grateful to all of you for not forgetting me—and for finding me again.
I’m really honored that Last Day was chosen to be an Amazon First Read for January. That means that Amazon Prime members can download the e-book for free—and all other readers can buy it for $1.99. I loved writing this novel; it’s a bit different for me—a tale of domestic suspense, but with lots of familiar elements my readers will recognize. It takes place in Black Hall, on the Connecticut Shoreline (like so many of my books) and is about best friends, sisters, mothers and daughters, and the secrets under a family’s roof. I would love for you to read it and, if so moved, leave an unbiased review on Amazon or Goodreads. —Luanne

VERDICT: Strong love overcomes pain in this latest from Rice (Pretend She’s Here) which combines suspense with stories of survivors, sisterhood, best friends, and small communities shaken by violence or death.
“Last Day…nail-biting mystery… Rice keeps the reader guessing as she gradually doles out long-hidden family secrets. Fans of intense family dramas will be rewarded.” I was thrilled by this PW review for Last Day —Luanne

Although Last Day is about a terrible crime, it still has everything you've come to expect from my writing: family, friendship, a coastal setting (Black Hall, on the Connecticut shoreline, familiar to my readers.) I can't wait for you to read it. –Luanne

One of the first clues that Old Lyme author Luanne Rice has perhaps entered new territory is right there on the cover of her latest young adult novel, "Pretend She's Here." It's an enthusiastic blurb from superstar thriller writer Harlan Coben.

Rice has created a masterful narrative full of intrigue and heart-pounding moments that will draw in readers and allow them to experience what could happen when depression drives someone to do the unthinkable.
I’m very excited: the first copies of THE BEAUTIFUL LOST in paperback have landed at my house. The book will be out on January 29, 2019 and is available for pre-order. I am in love with the cover…the evening sky—that gorgeous shade of blue filled with stars, constellations telling their own story…the silhouettes of Maia and Billy…the beach grasses swaying in the starlight…lights in the vehicle glowing with warmth and promise.
Malibu. I am sending love to all my friends, to the firefighters, to the animals, to the canyons, to the mountains, all affected by the Woolsey Fire. I lived there, and I return when i can. These pictures were taken from
Emily Lonergan's best friend died last year.
And Emily hasn't stopped grieving. Lizzie Porter was lively, loud, and fun -- Emily's better half. Emily can't accept that she's gone.
October on the marsh brings a change of light, deepening of colors, cool evenings, migratory birds—some leaving, others arriving, the brightest sunrises I’ve seen since arriving here, and boats heading home to safe harbors.
Summer’s over, and grief is complicated. Some days I’ll sit at my desk and think I feel Tim curling up on the back of my chair, behind my neck. I reach back to touch him, but he’s not there. No one will every replace him, but now we have kittens. I’d like to introduce you to three new members of the family: Orion, Ivy, and Patrick.
The blue changes, even within a minute or two, while looking at the same scene, at everything from sea to sky to whale spouts to rooftops to lobster pots to book jackets-- the iridescence, luminosity, darkness, all depending on the quality of light, the presence or absence of fog, the time of day.
It takes two ferry rides to get to this island in the Bay of Fundy off the coast of Nova Scotia--three if you count the longer one from St. John, New Brunswick, to Digby. Brier Island is a haven of peace and nature at the end of Digby Neck, surrounded by waters populated by humpback and minke whales, gray and harbor seals, dolphins and porpoises. Trails crisscross the island, and the one I took this morning leaves the back of the lodge, is marked by lobster buoys, and leads to Seal Cove. T
It is foggy on this island off the coast of Nova Scotia, the fog so thick it blurs the spiky pines and jagged rocks. You can hear waves crashing, fishing and whale watch boats entering and leaving the harbor, and the foghorn at the Coast Guard station, but you can't see them.
